The Waiter

Waiting Holds Power.

The power to bring out the best and sometimes the worst in all of us.

However, everything requires a waiting period.

Whether it’s waiting on an uber to get home safely, waiting on a phone call to see if you landed that job and even microwave popcorn.

Regardless, these moments of waiting bring opportunities to reflect on ourselves. And sometimes, the results of our waiting bring out our true-self. Like realizing we don’t handle patience well which result in self-doubt and self-hatred.

This of course is not ideal…so how do we conquer this period of patience?

The best example I’ve heard came from a gentleman I can’t remember the name of, but went something like this:

“What do waiters do while they are waiting? They serve.”-Unknown

And my adage to that phrase would be this:

The best waiters serve with a smile on their face and kindness in their heart. Regardless of what the waiter might face.

And more often than not, those waiters are appreciated and highly rewarded.

While you wait for something to come through in your life, there are plenty of people in the world you could serve.

And it will only matter because you served. Because no one can serve others like you.

Some days it’s good to think about your future, your progress, your success.

But not everyday was built to think about you.

Perhaps there are some days that are budgeted in your life to put yourself aside, let your life marinate, and focus on serving others.

And the world needs you! Because nobody else can serve like you. Because the only one who can serve like you-is you.

So serve somebody. Build somebody up. At the highest quality you can offer. Cook your neighbor a meal after a long day at work. Call your loved ones (parents, siblings, guardians, your friend from 5th grade, etc.) and tell them how much they mean to you. Go help a homeless shelter and bring your warmth and strength to somebody’s heart. Your positivity requires no payment but could be a priceless luxury to someone else.

You hold that much value in somebody’s life.

The world may ask for you to wait on your success. So in the meantime, serve with quality.
